Contemporary Art Sale | Exhibition at Sotheby's London

The Contemporary Art Day sale in London on 16 February includes a range of exciting artworks which span the notable movements and artists from the post war period to the present day.

The morning session is highlighted by an extraordinary selection of works by leading contemporary artists, including Gerhard Richter’s masterful Abstraktes Bild and an extremely rare and early spot painting by Damien Hirst, Amyloglucosidase from 1993.
The selection also comprises important works by Antony Gormley, Gilbert & George, Marc Quinn, Jeff Wall, Neo Rauch and Anselm Reyle, as well as pieces by younger artists including Joe Bradley, Seth Price and Aaron Young.

Highlights of the classical post war period include paintings by Jean Dubuffet, Georg Baselitz, Lucio Fontana, a set of drawings by Roman Opalka and sculptures by Manolo Valdes and Eduardo Chillida. We are proud to support the Sick Children's Trust charity, with eight lots which have been generously donated by leading contemporary artists.

The afternoon session opens with several exceptional examples from the Pop period, including a beautiful Dollar Sign by Andy Warhol and a sensuous Smoker by Tom Wesselmann. Graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled (Head) is a striking example from his ground-breaking work, and we are also delighted to offer two serene photographs by Thomas Struth.
